Interview with The Snuts

Interviews, Music, Reviews

“There’s no stopping West Lothian band The Snuts..”, says Jim Gellatly in the Sun as he raves about the Scottish bands newly released EP. The Snuts are a four-piece indie-rock band from Whitburn, Scotland. The band consists of Jack Cochrane on vocals/guitar, Joe McGillveray on guitar, Callum Wilson on bass and Jordan McKay on drums.

I had the chance to catch up with the band and ask them some questions of my own to find out exactly what makes The Snuts tick..

Q: What inspired your band name ‘The Snuts’?

A: That’s the best kept secret of ours, it’s something we’ve always been known as since we were just wee boys with guitars, we’ve never really felt the need to change it!

Q: Your Twitter bio is “So far removed from big city music. Songs for you, about you.” What is the meaning behind that?

A: I think one of the main reasons we love making music so much is that feeling of actually engaging with people through our tunes. That’s always been something we focus on massively while performing and writing tunes, an ethos we think personally big city bands are heavily lacking. Music from the heart, not the wardrobe.

Q: You guys have had a busy year with concerts and touring. Can you describe the feeling of being out on stage with a crowd singing your own lyrics back at you wherever you perform?

A: Pretty indescribable feeling, more addictive than anything. Knowing your lyrics mean anything at all to anyone at all is pretty special.

Q: My personal favourite song from you guys is ‘Glasgow‘. When I discovered you guys, it was the first song I listened to and I immediately fell in love with it. What is your personal favourite song that you have wrote?

A: Magic, glad you like it! That’s a tough one, I would probably ‘Summertime‘, the last track on our EP. We had a song there but no structure on the day we started recording it. Summertime turned out to be a pure blast of raw emotion and I think that’s something that’s really hard to capture in a recording.

Q: What’s on the cards for 2018 as we draw closer? Any songs in the works?

A: 2018 is set to be the busiest year yet for us. We are always writing and have some new stuff we”re proper excited to share so there will definitely be new music on its way early 2018. As cliche as it sounds, the music really is the only thing that matters to us. We are constantly focusing on how to be a better band, how to upgrade our sound and how to put on the best show we can for people paying their hard-earned money to put us on a stage. 2018 will be perfect for us if the music is right.

Q: What is the best thing about being a band?

A: Probably for me, it has to be just doing it with my best mates. Waking up and knowing you’re doing something you love and that off chance that you can change your life by playing your guitar!

You can stream The Snuts on Spotify and other music sites.

I look forward to seeing what The Snuts do in 2018!
